Mariana Lozza

Mariana Lozza is a distinguished lawyer specializing in public international law and investment arbitration, with over 18 years of experience as counsel in international arbitrations (ICSID, UNCITRAL, and ICC) representing States and State-owned enterprises. Her experience also includes participation in domestic court proceedings across more than ten jurisdictions, including the United States, Spain, the United Kingdom, and France.
For nine years, she led the Argentine defense team in international arbitrations and litigation as National Director and Deputy Director of International Affairs and Disputes at the Treasury Attorney General’s Office of the Argentine Republic.
She is a professor at various universities in Argentina and a frequent speaker at international forums and panels within her field of expertise.
She holds dual Argentine and Italian nationality. As a native Spanish speaker, she is fluent in English and has a basic knowledge of French.

As Director and Deputy Director, she led the Argentine Republic’s defense team in international investment arbitration proceedings brought by foreign investors before ICSID, the Permanent Court of Arbitration (under UNCITRAL Rules) and the ICC International Court of Arbitration. She was also responsible for supervising Argentina’s defense in foreign domestic court proceedings (in the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Spain, the Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, Luxembourg, Ireland, Switzerland, Cyprus, Canada, Australia and Japan) relating to sovereign debt, the recognition and enforcement of arbitral awards and foreign judgements, and the annulment of awards. Mariana Lozza acted as counsel of the Argentine Republic in domestic court proceedings across multiple jurisdictions — including the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Spain, the Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, Luxembourg, Ireland, Switzerland, Cyprus, Canada, Australia and Japan — concerning Argentina’s sovereign debt litigation, the recognition and enforcement of foreign arbitral awards and judgments against the Argentine State, and the annulment of investment arbitration awards.

Among her achievements, a notable highlight is the resounding victory obtained before the New York Court of Appeals, securing the reversal of a lower court judgment against the Argentine Republic for more than US$16 billion in a dispute between the State and a minority shareholders of the national oil company YPF S.A.
